![]() | ![]() | LASTEN KALENAT, International Cultural Event for Children, Lappeenranta, Finland, 3–7 June 2009 The fifth international Lasten Kalenat children’s cultural event will bring more than 1,000 young culture enthusiasts from Finland and abroad to Lappeenranta. International guests have been invited from such countries as Latvia and Russia. The diverse and cross-disciplinary programme of the Kalenat event comprises dance and drama as well as workshops in different arts. There are also evening parties, a dance and a beach party. The event will also include national drama, dance and circus camps. Lasten Kalenat is open to all children involved in cultural activities. The event provides the children with an opportunity to display their skills and learn new things from professionals. Main gala Lasten Kalenat culminates on 7 June 2009 with the main gala performance, where young folk dancers and actors perform to live music in front of a large audience at the Lappeenranta Sports Centre. Workshops Lasten Kalenat participants are offered 18 different workshops in dance, drama, circus, music and handicrafts. National camps National dance, drama and camps are organised in association with the Lasten Kalenat event. In addition to camp activities, the campers can participate in shared Lasten Kalenat events. The dance camp is intended for over 14-year-olds who master the basic dance skills. Enrolling for the camp is by dance group. The camp comprises 10 hours of instruction. In addition to folk dance, the camp includes instruction in modern and show dance. The drama camp is intended for under 14-year-old amateur actors. The camp programme comprises various workshops on theatrical expression, supervised by professionals in the field. The sircus camp is intended for under 14-year-old circus amateurs. The camp programme comprises various workshops on circus, supervised by professionals in the field.

Free participation for the group’s instructor with a minimum of ten full-price participation fees. The Kaleva Youth Association is an educational and cultural organisation for children. The activities involve approximately 18,000 children and young people under 16 years of age, and more than 8,000 young people and adults, who provide instruction and other club activities. The association promotes children’s cultural education, familiarity with Finnish folklore and healthy lifestyles. The aim is to support balanced physical and mental development of children’s personality by organising clubs, camps and other hobbies. The association’s club activities include, e.g., folk dance, folk music, drama, circus, sports, crafts and arts.
